The overall purpose of EBS Bridging Support is to sustain productive Basic Science laboratories through a period of loss of external funding and prevent dispersal of key research team members. The application form and review are used to ensure that EBS bridging funds are necessary and that their provision is likely to lead to future external funding.
Eligibility is restricted to Instructional Track Professors, Associate Professors, or Assistant Professors who hold primary appointments in a Basic Science Department. They must have an established research laboratory and have received NIH R01 level funding (or equivalent) but now have lost all external support or be in danger of losing support in the near future. Except under special circumstances requiring re-review, only up to 12 months is permitted. The funds are designed to keep the lab running and productive and maximize the chance of future funding.
